First Foreign Participant of This Year is Greek F-16 Demo Team

The Hellenic Air Force is coming back to Mošnov after five years in a big style. It is going to send its F-16 Demo Team “Zeus” to NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days 2014.

The Greek F-16 Zeus Demo Team, which flies the modern F-16 Block 52+ fighter jet, is in its Czech premiere the first confirmed foreign participant. The Greek fighter will join F-16s from other countries that had already performed above the Mošnov Airport in the past. In contrast to the others, the Greek aircraft is unique in performing with conformal fuel tanks, which is a configuration last seen at NATO Days in Ostrava with a static display of Polish F-16. Another unique feature is that the aircraft performs in its standard military camouflage which underlines combat preparedness of the aircraft and its crew.

“We are glad to have been able to offer something new. Greece belongs to countries which have a lot to offer, and it is not only Mirage 2000 that introduced itself here five years ago and repeated participation of which was recalled at last moment in 2012,” Zbyněk Pavlačík from the Jagello 2000 Association, the main organizer of the event, says. “Visitors of NATO Days in Ostrava are regularly assured of excellent acrobatic abilities of the F-16 aircraft by Dutch pilots, this time we are looking forward to performance of the pilot from the south of the Balkans Peninsula.”

Zeus belongs to young demo teams. Its first public display took place in November 2010. It is housed at Souda Air Force Base in Crete with 115th Combat Wing of the Greek Air Force and it is interesting that its members gained their initial experience with the renowned American Viper West F-16 Demo Team. The display pilot and the team’s commander is Captain Georgios Androulakis which has clocked more than 1,600 flight hours on F-16s.
