German Leopard and Puma to return, Boxer to arrive for the first time
Soon after the beginning of the year we have a good message for fans of ground armored vehicles. The German Army confirmed its participation at this year's NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days, it is planning to show the Leopard 2 tank and the Puma armoured vehicle again at the Leos Janacek Ostrava Airpor, and it will also premiere the Boxer wheeled transporter.
Leopard 2 tanks of the German Ground Forces visited the show three times since 2016, when Germany was the Special Partner Nation, and they were also involved in dynamic demonstrations of the Czech army in the past. The Puma tracked vehicle was also presented, among others, as one of the candidates for a new equipment for the Czech army. The modular eight-wheeled Boxer transporter is thus an only newcomer. All vehicles will be placed on static displays.
"Perhaps we have never had the presentation of foreign ground troops confirmed so early, more than half a year before the event. It may be influenced by the fact that the NATO Days were visited last year by the Commander of the German Army General Jörg Vollmer and that the event had made a strong impression on him by a range of presentations and a number of visitors,"explains Zbyněk Pavlačík, chairman of Jagello 2000.
These vehicles also serve as a presentation of the German defense industry and are among the best in their categories, although the first version of the Leopard 2 tank dates back to the 1970's. All three of them are products of Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and Rheinmetall companies, the latter is also the main marketing partner of the event.
Leopard 2 tanks in modernized versions now serve in the armies of nearly 20 countries and is still being purchased by another states, usually as a replacement for Soviet types.
The tracked Puma is considered to be the infantry combat vehicle with the best crew protection that has been produced since 2009 and moreover can be fitted with additional armour, the crew is protected even against chemical and biological weapons.
Boxer is a multipurpose wheeled armoured vehicle that is unique in its concept of modular cabins. In the mission, it is possible to change its configuration to combat, ambulance, command, repair or other within 20 minutes.
"We expect that this will not be the only participation of German security units at NATO Days, but traditionally we will be able to publish the presented equipment of other military and non-military components only after their official confirmation," adds Pavlacik.
