Europe's largest security show is back with a plenty of premieres and the most modern equipment
NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days return in style after one year. The big number of participating countries promises several attractive premiere displays, two aerobatic groups and equipment purchased by the Army of the Czech Republic.
The biggest attractions of this year's NATO Days will surely be the first air display of the 5th generation F-35 Lightning II fighter aircraft, the first dynamic display of the Gripen E in Central and Eastern Europe, and we shouldn’t forget the first presentation of a South American country at the NATO Days – Brazil. It will present the C-390 Millennium transport aircraft on a static display. C-390 may be one of the potential candidates for the modernisation of the Czech Air Force's transport squadron.
The performances of the aerobatic groups Patrouille Suisse and Wings of Storm will also provide a beautiful spectacle. Solo Display of the Finnish F/A-18C and the Belgian F-16 in a special livery called Dream Viper will be no less eye-catching. Martin Šonka, World Aerobatic Vice-Champion, will also show his aerobatic skills. He will fly in a Z-142C AF training aircraft.
Helicopters are also an integral part of the Air Forces. Visitors can look forward to a dynamic display of a Mi-24P, static and dynamic display of both Black Hawk and NH90 and one of the last public performances of the Czech Mi-24/35V. These machines will be replaced in the future by AH-1Z Viper and UH-1Y Venom helicopters which visitors will be able to see on static displays.
Two special groups will be present at the NATO Days. The AGAT unit of the Polish Special Forces will perform a HALO jump from an altitude of 4 kilometres, while the all-female Jordanian Quick Reaction Force Team will perform together with the Czech Police Intervention Unit and the Polish Anti-Terrorist Unit display of liberation of hostages from the terrorists‘ captivity. Traditionally, the Customs Administration and the Prison Service of the Czech Republic will also show their intervention units.
Fans of heavy ground vehicles will also be in for a treat. The modernisation project of the Army of the Czech Republic in the form of the CV90 MkIV infantry fighting vehicle will be on display. There will also be the M1 Abrams main battle tank, the Leopard 2A7V and the M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicle. Also worth mentioning is the Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzer of the German Army. In addition, many other special vehicles will be presented by the Czech Security and Rescue Services and the Army of the Czech Republic.
In addition, Czech soldiers will be seen in a variety of dynamic displays of the army's capabilities – from parachuting, preparing an ambush or conducting a ground attack, but they also have a large share in the organisation and logistics of the whole event.
In total, visitors can look forward to more than 9 hours of pure aerial entertainment with 47 dynamic performances taking place over the weekend. The ground displays this year total 35 and the overall duration exceeds 11 hours.
"Our security cannot be taken for granted and there is no prosperity without security, this is the motto of NATO Days which has accompanied this event for a long time and this year, due to the war in Ukraine, its truth was directly confirmed," says Zbyněk Pavlačík, Chairman of Jagello 2000. "This year's edition will be unique in Europe and I believe that after the event this opinion will be shared by visitors who can look forward to the great show that awaits us on the weekend of 17-18 September."
