KNDS: The future of European Land Systems

Once again this year, one of the most significant players in the European defence industry and the main partner of the event, KNDS, will appear at NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days. Visitors will be able to see a dynamic display featuring their most advanced main battle tank, the Leopard 2A8.

This holding company was established in 2015 through the merger of two leading military land systems manufacturers from Germany and France – Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and Nexter. In addition to its main facilities in its countries of origin, it has branches and partner companies worldwide and employs around 9,000 people.

Their production portfolio includes armoured wheeled vehicles such as the Mungo, AMPV, GFF4, and Boxer, as well as reconnaissance, air defence, and artillery systems like the Fennek, Gepard, and PzH 2000 howitzer, and of course, the Leopard 2 main battle tanks.

This year’s KNDS presentation will focus on these tanks. Visitors will have the opportunity to see firsthand the future armament of the Czech Army’s 73rd Tank Battalion of the 7th Mechanised Brigade – the Leopard 2A8 main battle tank. The Czech Republic plans to acquire 61 of these tanks in six different modifications under the Cooperative Procurement Agreement, with an option to extend the order by an additional 16 units.

Currently, this machine is considered one of the most advanced of its kind in the world. Thanks to its exceptional combination of protection, mobility, manoeuvrability, and firepower, it boasts outstanding performance. Its continuously upgraded primary and secondary protection ensures safety for both the crew and the tank itself against the latest types of munitions. Its quality continues the legacy of earlier versions of the Leopard 2 platform, trusted by the armed forces of 20 countries around the world, with over 3,500 units produced. As a result, it forms the backbone of European armoured forces.
