Polish Special Forces to Return at Mošnov

13.09.2016, 16:40

Poland is a traditional participant at NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days, where it presents its air, ground and security units. The Polish security forces will return this year with the military unit Agat making its first appearance.

The elite Polish forces have taken part on NATO Days in Ostrava since the first editions of the event. Special Forces have existed as an independent branch of the Polish army next to air, ground and naval forces only since 2007. They have performed at Mošnov two years ago, when Poland was the Special Partner Nation. Whilst at that time, the Komandos military unit from Lublince was introduced, this year they will be replaced by the members of Agat military unit from Gliwice, who will have their premiere at Mošnov. The visitors will have the chance to view the equipment that these first-class soldier use up-close.

„Special forces of every army are considered to be elite and a demonstration of the Agat military unit fulfils our effort to show our visitors the best of what the Czech Republic and its allies have to ensure our safety and security,“ says Zbyňek Pavlačík, the chairman of Jagello 2000. „Moreover, we can include this display in the list of exclusive premieres at this year’s anniversary NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days.“

On its static display, Agat will introduce Humwee and Land Rover terrain vehicles with the addition of a quadbike. Visitors will be able to freely talk with the present servicemen and can find out interesting information about their profession.

The Agat unit is a relatively new formation created only in 2011 and based in Gilwice. Its primary task are diversion operations in the rear of the enemy force. While other Polish special units are trained for guerrilla warfare or surgical operations deep in enemy force’s rear, the Agat unit’s task is to disrupt the operation of first line enemy forces and thus the unit carries the greatest burden in fighting an enemy equipped with armoured vehicles and aircraft.

The Polish static display will also include the tent of the Minister of National Defence of Poland. The Polish border guard and the detachment of prevention from Katowice will offer a display of their activities as well. They will take a part in the dynamic display with their Czech colleagues where they will pacify street riots.
