08.09.2017, 18:22

Visitors of this year's NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days will get the chance to see aircraft from 17 countries, but for the first time in history, three countries will also present their ground forces equipment, including three infantry fighting vehicles, which could possibly replace the aging fleet of Soviet-made BVP-2s in the Czech Army.

Participation of German and Slovak ground forces as well as Polish Special Forces gives visitors a unique opportunity to have a closer look at different types of equipment from a main battle tank across infantry fighting vehicles to self-propelled cannon howitzers. Moreover, engagement of defence industries of these particular countries allows to see their latest products, which are being introduced to armies.

German ground forces will, beside the Leopard 2 main battle tank, present for the first time their new Puma infantry fighting vehicle, which has an unrivalled protection of the crew and is subsequently replacing the aging fleet of Marder vehicles. Rheinmetall, one of Puma manufacturers, will also show the Lynx infantry fighting vehicle in its exposition that is typical for its modular design. Lynx can thus serve in different configurations as a command, reconnaissance, ambulatory or recovery vehicle.

There will also be a dynamic display of the ASCOD vehicle manufactured by General Dynamics. ASCOD could have been seen at Mošnov airport last year, nevertheless, this year, it will present its SAMSON Mk II remote controlled weapon station made by the RAFAEL company.

All of these three infantry fighting vehicles as well as the CV90 vehicle by BAE Systems were intensively tested by the Czech Army in military area Libavá two months ago, because one of them could replace the aging BVP-2s. A contract to deliver a minimum of 210 vehicles should be signed next year in order to start the delivery in 2020.
