The AW109 helicopter will commemorate the Belgian anniversary at NATO Days
The list of foreign participants in the NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days 2021 continues to expand. The Belgian Air Component will add its historically ninth participation, offering spectators the display of the AgustaWestland AW109 multi-purpose helicopter.
Visitors were able to see the flag of Belgium for the last time in 2018 during the impressive performance of the F-16 multi-purpose aircraft or the static display of the C-130 Hercules transport aircraft, which is currently being replaced by the A400M in the Belgium Air Component. This year, however, visitors can look forward to the participation of the AgustaWestland AW109 helicopter, which can be seen during an air demonstration by the A-109 Solo Display Team Razzle Blades.
"Belgium has been talked about in recent days mainly in connection with football, but in addition to excellent footballers, this country can also offer experienced pilots, such as Jo 'JJ' Jacobs with a flight record of more than 1600 hours, which will fly AW109 over Mošnov," comments Zbyněk Pavlačík, Chairman of Jagello 2000. "The Belgian Air Force, is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, and we are so pleased that NATO Days can take part in the celebrations of this important milestone."
AgustaWestland AW109 is a light, eight-seater helicopter, characterized by its retractable landing gear. Its use is mainly in the civilian sector for passenger transport and as a medical helicopter. In the military version, it found its use for air support operations, in reconnaissance and also in the field of air rescue, the so-called SAR. The Belgian Air Component, as the Belgian Air Force is officially called, has a total of 23 such helicopters. Apart from Belgium, the helicopter is also in the service of many other armies of the world or other armed forces. We can find them, for example, in the service of the Swedish Army, the famous RAF or the Italian Carabinieri.
