German Navy to showcase its flying assets
Germany as the 2016 Special Partner Nation will present a wide spectrum of its naval air aviation inventory. Representing the Marineflieger will be the P-3C Orion Maritime Patrol Aircraft as well as the Sea King and the Sea Lynx search & rescue helicopters.
Germany has embraced the SPN role in a great style. Though the discussions with the ground forces, the air force and with non-military agencies are still under way, it is already clear that the German presentation will be exceptional.
“German Navy is sending three of its four aircraft types. This only proves how prestigiously Germany sees its special partnership. The planned display is not only numerous, but a very attractive one, too, with some premiere participations,” comments Zbyněk Pavlačík, head of Jagello 2000. “Apart from the Sea King that already participated in 2014, the two other machines will be making their debut appearances. Moreover, in case of the Orion, the type will make a double premiere since Norway will be sending one aircraft of their own as well.”

The Marineflieger serves two primary purposes. One is aerial reconnaissance, the other providing assistance for vessels in need. The surveillance and protection of territorial waters is the task for the P-3C Orion Maritime Patrol Aircraft that is fitted with submarine detectors and anti-submarine weapons. The Sea Lynx multi-purpose helicopters can also carry out reconnaissance missions, operating from frigates and cruisers. The helicopters can also provide insertion to other vessels. Germany planned this helicopter type for presentation at NATO Days already in 2015. Though its participation was cancelled for technical reasons, the visitors could enjoy the type in the colours of the Royal Navy, more so in the dynamic display.
Due to their larger size, the Sea King helicopters, on the other hand, operate from ground bases. Their primary roles include search and rescue missions, evacuations, disaster relief and tactical transport. The Sea Kings can also be equipped with anti-ship missiles for combat operations.
All the German Navy aircraft will be displayed in the static park.
