The German Navy will offer the strongest formation in history

The German Navy will send as many as five aircraft to the NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force this year. Visitors to the event can look forward to, among other things, the return of the P-3C Orion reconnaissance aircraft after six years.

The presentation of the German Navy is part of the extensive participation of the German armed and security forces. We have previously announced the confirmed army equipment led by the Leopard 2A tank and the NH90 helicopter. The Navy plans to showcase P-3C Orion and Do-228 reconnaissance aircraft and EC-135, Sea Lynx and Sea King helicopters on static displays. At the same time, it will still not be a complete German participation.

Change: Helicopter Sea King and utility aircraft Do-228 displays were cancelled (13th September 2022).

“Much has already been said about Germany's unprecedented support towards our event, yet they repeatedly surprise us with the way they outdo themselves. We are understandably happy that this will also be the case this year, moreover, when we will once again welcome the Orion aircraft at the Mošnov airport, which we could see only in 2016," says Zbyněk Pavlačík, chairman of Jagello 2000. "But let's hope that it won't be the last time we see it, because the German Navy is already counting on replacing them in the coming years."

The P-3C Orion is a maritime reconnaissance aircraft developed specifically for submarine detection. The magnetic anomaly detector located in the significant extension of the tail is used for this purpose, the plane can neutralize detected submarines with torpedoes or depth charges stored in the hull. However, it can also be used to support ground operations or to monitor the environment and natural resources, which is also among the tasks for the second presented aircraft, the Do-228.

Multipurpose Sea Lynx helicopters are also used for reconnaissance, they can operate from ships and which can also be used for landing on other vessels. In contrast, Sea King helicopters, due to their size, operate from land bases and their primary purpose is search and rescue, evacuation, disaster relief and tactical transport. Both of these types are soon to be replaced by different variants of the NH90 helicopter.

The EC-135 utility helicopter completes the navy's line-up, but even so, it will not be all of the aircraft introduced by the German forces. Negotiations are still ongoing, additional equipment may be added, the German Air Force also plans to participate in the NATO Days, which we will inform you about further.
