The international flyby will celebrate 15 years of Gripen in the service of the Czech Air Force
In August 2005, the last two of the 14 JAS-39 Gripen aircraft landed at the airport in Čáslav, replacing the obsolete Soviet MiG-21 fighters in the Czech Air Force. These modern fighters produced by Saab have significantly increased the capabilities of the Czech Air Force, and Saab is also the general partner of the event. This anniversary at this year's jubilee NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days will be commemorated by the joint flight of Gripen aircraft in the colours of the Czech, Swedish and Hungarian air forces.
Viewers will thus have an extraordinary opportunity to see the aircraft of all three of its European operators together, in a seven-member formation. While the Czech Gripen has been represented at the NATO Days every year since 2005 and the Hungarian aircraft presented themselves at the Mošnov airport in static and dynamic demonstrations, for the Gripen in Swedish colors it will be its premiere participation.
"We have been striving for a long time to show the JAS-39 Gripen of the Swedish Air Force at the NATO Days in Ostrava, and we are glad that this will eventually happen on such a special occasion," says Zbyněk Pavlačík, Chairman of Jagello 2000. "It will not be the only opportunity to see the Gripen in flight, because the Hungarian and Czech aircraft will be presented in a separate performances, Czech aircraft will also be involved in other demonstrations. We will really enjoy the Gripen on this year's 15th anniversary."
The JAS-39 Gripen multi-purpose fighter aircraft are manufactured by the Swedish company Saab, which is the general partner of the NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days. Sweden owns over 170 Gripen aircraft, but a total of 28 leases to the Czech Republic and Hungary, which replaced them with Soviet MiG aircraft in the fighter aircraft.
In its basic configuration, the JAS-39 aircraft is capable of performing both fighter and offensive and reconnaissance tasks. Its characteristics include a delta wing, low operating costs or the ability to use the road for takeoffs and landings.
