Double participation of Saab 105: Austrian finale and Swedish return

15.09.2020, 16:11

Two of the flight demonstrations at this year's NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days will be provided by a Saab 105 training aircraft. After five years, the aircraft will also return in Swedish colours.

The Saab 105 is definitely not a newcomer at Mošnov, this Swedish training aircraft was introduced in 2013 as part of the popular Swedish Historical Squadron. This time, as in 2015, both users will introduce this aircraft, ie Austria and Sweden, where it is better known under the name Sk 60. Both aircraft will be presented in separate dynamic demonstrations.

"The Austrian Air Force was originally supposed to be represented by the training PC-7, which we announced in the spring. Eventually, they have decided to change it and send us Saab 105, in an attractive tiger squadron paint," adds Zbyněk Pavlačík, chairman of Jagello 2000. “The reason is that the Austrian Air Force wants to decommission it by the end of the year, and our event is the last opportunity for this aircraft to show itself to the public. "

The Saab 105 was developed in the early 1960s, when it also completed its first flight. This high-altitude twin-engine jet training aircraft currently still serves in the colours of Austria and Sweden. However, both countries are currently seeking replacement for the Saab 105 aircraft, which have served for 50 years. In Austria, the Czech L-39NG aircraft from Aero Vodochody is one of the candidates to be its successors.
