Poland: F-16, MiG-29, Su-22 and Orlik group in the air, Bayraktar on the ground

13.07.2023, 09:39

The Polish Air Force is preparing an extremely exclusive equipment display at the NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days, as Poland became the show's special partner this year. They will conduct four flight demonstrations over the Mošnov airport, and for the first time show the Bayraktar TB2 drone.

Visitors will have the chance to observe a wide spectrum of technologies covering fighter, unmanned, and multi-purpose aircraft, and helicopter thanks to the Polish Air Force's dynamic and static displays of its new and time-proven equipment. Additionally, training turboprop aircraft with the Orlik aerobatic group will be present. It means also this year's third officially confirmed aerobatic group.

Change: Dynamic displays of MiG-29 and Su-22 aircraft were cancelled (12th September 2023).

Visitors can anticipate the MiG-29 combat aircraft's first dynamic presentation. When Poland was a partner nation in 2014, this was already scheduled, but it had to be cancelled due to a technical issue. There will also be the Su-22 fighter-bomber and the F-16 multipurpose aircraft flying. The unmanned Bayraktar TB2 aircraft will garner the great interest in its debut, it will be placed at the static display, along with the F-16 and M28B Bryza aircraft, the S-70i Black Hawk helicopter.

"Poland belongs among the most significant foreign partners of the NATO Days, and with this impressive interest in the role of a partner country, it only confirms that," praises Zbyněk Pavlačík, chairman of Jagello 2000. "We are expecting modern equipment such as Bayraktar drone, as well as legendary aircraft MiG-29 and Su-22. And this is just the air force; substantial participation from the ground and special forces is also anticipated; we will provide more information later; talks are still ongoing."

The Bayraktar TB2 drone, made by the Turkish company Baykar, rose to prominence on a global scale during the first weeks of Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022 when it notably aided Ukrainian forces in stopping Russian forces. One of the best military drones available today, it can fly up to 222 km/h and remain in the air for up to 27 hours. Poland acquired it for its arsenal only in October 2022.

The MiG-29 multipurpose combat aircraft is also frequently highlighted in relation to fighting in Ukraine, as it is utilized by both warring sides. The twin-engine vehicle was created as the Soviet Union's response to the F-16 and F/A-18 Hornet aircrafts from the United States.
