Slovakia announces the return of the Spartan and proven Black Hawks
Another confirmed participant of the NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days is the Slovak Air Force. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of an independent state, the UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter will be presented in a dynamic display. Visitors will be able to see another Black Hawk together with the C-27J Spartan transport aircraft in a static display.
While the Black Hawk helicopters appeared in this line-up at the Mošnov airport in two previous editions, the Spartan in Slovak colours returns after a four-year break.
"This year we commemorate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the independent Czech and Slovak Republics. Current developments in the world also show that it is far from a rule that two countries after division have such good relations as we have with Slovakia. I am very happy that they are also confirmed by the regular participation of Slovak units at the NATO Days," says Zbyněk Pavlačík, chairman of Jagello 2000.
In 2017, Slovakia significantly modernized its air force with technology of Western provenance, and this year included in its arsenal both the first C-27J Spartan aircraft and UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters.
The C-27J Spartan manufactured by the Italian company Leonardo-Finmeccanica is a medium-range twin-engine turboprop transport aircraft. The Slovak Air Force owns two of these machines, which replaced the aging An-24 and An-26 aircraft.
On the other hand, the multipurpose helicopter UH-60M Black Hawk comes from the American company Sikorsky and thanks to its versatility, it can be used both for combat operations and support of ground forces, as well as for training or assistance during natural disasters. Last year, one of them also helped put out a fire in the Bohemian Switzerland National Park.
