The Belgian F-16 Solo Display will present the Dream Viper!
The F-16 Solo Display of the Belgian Air Force has expanded the list of attractive flight demonstrations at this year's NATO Days in Ostrava & the Czech Air Force Days. The team returns to Mošnov Airport after four years with the Dream Viper aircraft.
While in 2018 the team introduced a machine in camouflage Dark Falcon (according to the official designation of the F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft, this year's theme refers to the jet's unofficial name Viper. Very experienced Capt. Steven "Vrieske" de Vries will be in the cockpit of the aircraft, one of the few pilots with more than 5,000 hours on F-16s. He shows the power of the aircraft during performances, but his specialty is maneuvers with G-negative forces.
"F-16 fighters are one of the symbols of the North Atlantic Alliance, when more than a third of its members have them in their inventory. As such, they have been present at our event every year since 2007 and we are glad that this year will not be an exception, especially when it will be in the hands of the most inexperienced pilot outside the United States," says Zbyněk Pavlačík, Chairman of Jagello 2000, the main organizer of the event. "In September, an imaginary duel of F-16, F / A-18 and Eurofighter Typhoon jets will take place over Mosnov Airport, all of which will show the limits of their capabilities in dynamic demonstrations."
The F-16 Fighting Falcon is a single-seat multi-purpose aircraft of the 4th generation, which first took off in 1974, but thanks to modernizations still meets the requirements of air forces, is still in production and many countries are freshly introducing it into service. However, instead of further modernization, the Belgian Air Force chose to switch to more modern aircraft of the 5th generation F-35 Lightning II. They are to receive their first pieces in 2023, and F-16 aircraft are now experiencing one of the last seasons in Belgian service.
