The Czech premiere of the A-330 MRTT aircraft will brighten up NATO Days

19.08.2021, 14:10

Visitors to this year's NATO Days in Ostrava & the Czech Air Force Days can look forward to another important premiere. For the first time, an Airbus A-330 MRTT transport aircraft from the MMF's international program, of which the Czech Republic is a part, will visit a public event in the Czech Republic.

The aim of the Multinational Multi-Role Tanker Transport Fleet (MMF) is to increase the ability and capacity of European states in order to be able to conduct air-to-air reueling and thus improve operational deployment. Together with the Czech Republic, six NATO countries are involved in the programme, which by the end of 2024 should have a total of nine Airbus A-330 aircraft in the MRTT (Multi-Role Tanker Transport) configuration. One of these aircraft will take part in the inaugural flight on the first day of the NATO Days, and on Sunday in a flight with JAS-39 Gripen aircraft will demonstrate a simulation of air-to-air refueling.

"Of course, we are very happy that the A-330 MRTT aircraft will visit us for the first time, and the confirmation of participation comes symbolically only a few weeks after the Czech Republic first used this aircraft to transport troops to the Baltics," comments Zbyněk Pavlačík. Chairman of the Jagello 2000. "At the same time, this program well illustrates the possibilities for Allied cooperation, so that even smaller countries can use the capacity of large transport aircraft."

The Airbus A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) is a new generation multi-purpose aircraft built on the basis of the Airbus A330-200 civilian transport. The MRTT version has been in production since 2007 and since then more than 45 aircraft have been delivered. "The Airbus A330 MRTT aircraft allows the air transport of 266 passengers and 45 tons of palletized cargo. For the purpose of air-to-air refueling, the aircraft is able to transport 111 tons of fuel," explained Colonel Miloslav Synek, Head of the Helicopter and Transport Aviation Development Section of the MoD Force Development Section, for army.cz
