The "St. Wenceslas" battalion will present the TAC on a static display
At the NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days, the 42nd mechanized battalion, which is part of the 4th rapid deployment brigade together with 41st mechanized battalion and 44th light motorized battalion, will be presented again this year.
Visitors can enjoy a display of the Tactical Command Post (TAC), which is used to ensure the planning and decision-making activities of the Battalion Commander and control the execution of the operation. The TAC is characterized by high mobility and speed in taking and leaving the deployment site to ensure survivability on the battlefield and flexibility of the tasks performed.
Since its establishment, the battalion has participated in all foreign operations of the Czech Republic, whether in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iraq, Kosovo or Afghanistan. In addition to military operations, the 42nd Mechanised Battalion has also assisted in natural disasters, such as the 1997 floods in Moravia and the 2010 floods in the Liberec region.
The TAC consists of 3 Pandur vehicles in different versions, which will be on the static display. The APC CO is the commander's version of the vehicle, i.e. it is the workplace of the commander and his officer. APC Rec. LOK is a reconnaissance version of the machine, which provides an overview of the tactical situation on the battlefield using advanced optical instruments. The APC C2 is a communications version to provide radio network monitoring in the command and control system.
The 42nd battalion follows tradition of the 8th cavalry regiment, named as Prince St. Wenceslav regiment, located in the city Pardubice, which was founded in 1920 but the historical roots of this unit dates back to the 1682 heavy cavalry regiment. Battalion is designed for execute combat and support operations of immidiate threat either in the territory of the Czech republic or abroad. It’s characteristic is hight manuver abilities, mobility and speed of deployment. Battalion is also able conducting of the offensive and defensive activities.
